What was the name of the B-17 that TWA flew, and was the purpose of flying the B-17?

Good job Pam
The name of the aircraft was "Two Kind Of Words", and was used for all weather flying testing

::chuckles:: Thanks Gary.. I'm usually not quite so knowledgeable, but i like airline oddities, and a bomber being owned by a transport company is definately an oddity. :::LOL:: Fly TWA.. Or else! :::LOL:::

The correct name is "Two Kind Words" and we had a couple of them (other one named "Jasmin's Joy"). Some swear TWA had three but I was only able to track down and verify these two. They were not only used for weather but primarily as engine test beds, engine mods and for testing various flight routes (Pathfinders) for our 307's & DC-4's.
